Inspiration is FuckinG Overrated

Weeds on walls are back. With a rant at hand.

Watcha gonna read is a response to a friend of mine whos going through a funk period, artistic block, slump. Do you have more synonyms to share?

Inspiration is nothing, its the single most overrated thing in art followed closely by talent.Inspiration is a puny ass biatch, pay no heed to it, if inspiration goes all"fuck you ****** I am not coming to you" then say "fuck you back, inspiration, I dont need you, I got plain old workmanship to help me deal with shit, atleast workmanship isnt unfaithful like you", then you go about painting, you may paint absolute drivel, regurgitate shyt from all over, be boring, but it will get inspiration all insecure and shyt and make it come back to you.

Write shit down, doesnt matter if tis the grocery list, draw shit down, doesnt matter if you just drew a map for your imaginary friend to elf land.

The thing about inspiration is that it follows workmanship almost everywhere, it may stray and not follow workmanship(it happens when you just get inspired just looking the ceiling and shyt) but thats rare.
If the great artist were to have depended solely on inspiration, they would have had made 10 paintings in their lifetime, and even those paintings would ahve sucked because of the lack of workmanship.
Even workmanship leaves you after a while saying" fuck you man, I am outta here, get over that inspiration bitch already, this is getting retarded".

Let go.

pffff.
end of rant.

  2. nothings expected of you, nothings expected of you ever, or anyone else for that matter.
When I said anything can be inspiring(in my response to your original note), by default I also mean that nothing is inspiring.
I am not asking you to agree or anything, just providing you my recipe to make some food for thought.
Just keep that in mind, its yet another perspective at things.

Inspiration doesn't come that often, and even when it comes, it doesn't come for that long. Thats where workmanship comes in, not asking you to be a slave.
The problem with not working is that times, even when inspiration comes, you are not able to either sense it properly, as you are not working your senses arent that receptive, and even if the senses do recieve that inspiration, the technical faculties fail to do anything with it. Its like you have a blueprint to make the best invention in the universe, but you dont know jack shit about science.
And even if one goes beyond technical faculties, as you and i both have come across works where the artwork worked despite the technicalities. But those are such rare moments that they wont come more than a few times.
I know you are a man who can take these brazen decisions. Where you wont have a fail safe method or something.
But my inclination lies with the point that you might be receptive if you dont keep working.
You looked the other way? so what brother, its ok, fight the fucking demons, we are here standing with you man. Just dont give up and I know you will not give up.
Work on whats troubling you, yes decipher it.

And please guys, I say this to a lot of my friends, dont use mental masturbation where its not required. Its demeaning in a sense, so decadent, dealing with internal issues isnt being self-indulgent. Introspection is not sugar coated mental masturbation.

I dont want you to agree or disagree necessarily. You can even throw it in the trash can if you want. Your choice.
But keep my perspective in mind, if you think theres even a kernel of sense in there.

    Much love,
    Bhanu
